BREAKING : CMAC Works to Safely Remove One-Tonne Thai Bomb

Phnom Penh, July 30, 2025 – The Cambodian Mine Action Centre (CMAC) is currently undertaking operations to safely neutralize a MK-84 bomb, according to a report from Director General Hong Ratana. The ordnance is believed to have been dropped by a Thai F-16 or Gripen jet fighter during recent border clashes.

The MK-84 is among the largest bombs in the MK series, measuring approximately 3.5 meters in length and weighing around 1,000 kilograms. Significantly, over half of its total weight is comprised of explosives.

Hong Ratana noted that MK-84 bombs were rarely deployed in past conflicts within Cambodia, underscoring the severity of the recent incident. CMAC operators are working diligently to mitigate the potential danger and ensure the area is safe.
